Abyssal Escape Furnace Guide: Heat Build, Abilities & Tips
How the Abyssal Escape Furnace killer works: charge heat, thruster flight, claw slash and scorched earth explained, plus the phase 3 heat refill and heat management tips.
The Furnace is Abyssal Escape's resource-management killer. It has no cooldowns to track and no teleport tricks — instead everything it does is gated behind a single heat bar that you have to build before you can spend it. Play the bar correctly and Furnace is one of the most oppressive chasers in the game. Play it badly and you spend half the match standing still.
The heat bar is the whole kit
Heat has exactly two sources and three sinks.
| Heat source | How it works |
|---|---|
| Landing hits | Any damage you deal tops the bar up |
| Charge Heat | Locks you in place and rapidly fills the bar |
Charge Heat is the important one, and it comes with a real cost: while you are charging you are stationary, and stuns interrupt it. A survivor who lands a stun during your charge does not just deny you heat — they also buy themselves several seconds of distance.

The three abilities
Thruster flight
Spending heat lets Furnace fly across the map. Beyond the mobility, flight indicates every survivor on the map while you are airborne, which makes it the most reliable tracking tool in the kit.
Furnace also has a passive that shows the rough direction of nearby survivors, but the flight reveal is far more precise. Treat the passive as a hint and the flight as the actual scan.
Worth knowing: the flight passive exists because testers pushed for it. Furnace originally had poor verticality on maps with multiple elevations, and flight was added specifically to fix that weakness.
Claw slash
A short dash followed by a slash. On its own it is a normal gap-closer. With enough heat banked, the dash travels noticeably further and you can press the ability again mid-dash to stop early — which is how you bait a survivor into dodging at the wrong moment.
Claw slash also applies burning damage, which is the main reason to spend heat on it rather than saving the bar for flight.
Scorched Earth
Furnace pulls out flamethrowers and damages everything in front of it. This is the highest-damage tool in the kit and the only one that hits multiple survivors at once, so it is what forces a team to stop stacking on the same generator and spread out.
Phase 3: the free refill
When phase 3 begins, Furnace automatically regenerates heat up to 50% of the bar and can keep building while moving. That single buff converts the killer from "strong but stationary" into a genuine late-game threat, because you no longer have to stop to charge before every engagement.
Practical heat management
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| Opening 30 seconds | Charge to a comfortable buffer before your first chase — nobody is stunned yet anyway |
| Mid-chase, bar empty | Do not charge in the open. Break line of sight first, or take the M1 trades |
| Survivor at a loop | Bank heat, then use the extended claw slash to close the gap instead of wasting a flight |
| Two survivors stacked | Scorched Earth. This is the only ability that punishes grouping |
| Late game (phase 3) | Stop charging entirely if you can. The auto-refill plus hit-based gain usually covers everything |
The most common Furnace mistake is treating flight as a chase tool. It is a information tool that happens to move you — burning the entire bar to close 20 metres leaves you with nothing for the actual hit.
Is Furnace worth unlocking?
Yes, especially as a second killer. It is one of the cheaper unlocks on the roster, its basic M1 still deals the standard 20 damage in phase 1, and the heat system rewards planning rather than raw mechanics. The trade-off is that Furnace is the most punishable killer against stun-heavy survivor builds, because every stun you eat during a charge is pure lost tempo.

FAQ
How do you build heat as Furnace?
Land hits, or use Charge Heat. Charging locks you in place and can be interrupted by stuns.
What does the phase 3 buff actually give?
It automatically refills heat to 50% of the bar and lets Furnace keep generating heat while moving.
Is Scorched Earth a tracking ability?
No. Scorched Earth is a flamethrower that damages survivors in front of you. Tracking comes from thruster flight, which reveals everyone on the map while airborne.
